Jeff Sauer formally announced his decision to retire as the head coach of the Wisconsin Badger Hockey program, effective at the end of this season. When it ends, Sauer will have been behind the Badger bench for TWENTY YEARS.
He will have been a head coach for a total of 31 years.
Sauer left Colorado College in 1982 to take over the Wisconsin program from BOB JOHNSON. During his career at Wisconsin, the Badgers won TWO NCAA titles, including one in his first season as the coach. In total, the Badgers reached the NCAA tournament 12 times. The Badgers also won five WCHA playoff titles.
No replacement will be named to succeed Sauer until after the season ends with the Frozen Four on April 4 & 6.
