Despite the fact that Michael Benett accomplished something that Ron Dayne was never able to do...... rush for over 100 yards against Michigan, the Badgers lost their second straight conference game on Saturday 13-10 to Michigan. With the loss the Badgers drop to 3-2 overall, but more important see their Big TEN record fall to 0-2, and have all but said goodbye to a Rose Bowl three-peat.
The Badger defense played up to the challenge in the " Big House" on Saturday, only allowing Michigan 375 yards while holding the Wolverines to two field goals and just one touch down. Unfortunatly..... Brooks Bollinger and the Badger's offense struggled all day, and literally shot themselves in the foot when they had excellent opportunities to score.
In the first half..... the Badgers moved themselves inside the 30 yard line four times and all they could produce was a 49 yard field goal by Pisetsky. Despite the lack of offensive production, the Badgers found themselves tied at 3-3 goig into the locker room at halftime.
In the third quarter......once again it was the Badger defense rising to the occassion....Michigan had a third and goal at the 8 ..... Wendell Bryant broke through the line on a blitz and SACKED Drew Henson for a loss. The Wolverines settled for a 33 yard field goal and took a 6-3 lead, which lasted the remainder of the quarter, and early into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth quarter.....Bollinger and the offense came to life and reclaimed the lead on a carry-over drive from the third quarter which traveled 71 yards in 14 plays. Bollinger swept out right, and passed to Chad Kuhns who plowed his way five yards into the end zone for the TOUCH DOWN. After the kick by Pisetsky the Badgers led 10-6. But...... the Michigan offense behind Henson and Terrell stormed back. The two big plays on the scoring drive were on a third and eight...... Henson rolled out and threw a 20 yard pass completion to David Terrell for a first down. Later..... henson scrambled out of the pocket under heavy pressure from the Badger defense, he lofted a pass down the right sideline, Terrell was waiting and out-leaped teammate Bellamy and Badger corner back Jamar Fletcher for the touch down catch. With the extra point, the Wolverines were back in the lead 13-10 with a little ver six minutes remaining.
The Badgers regained control and went on a decent drive, which appeared to be headed for at least a game tying field goal or game winning touch down. Unfortunatly the drive eventually ran out of gas..... so on came Pisetsky to kick a possible game tying field goal from 42 yards.
It looked good initially..... but in the end.... fell short and the Badgers still trailed 13-10 with 2:45 remaining. After that Henson and his offense picked up a game winning first down, before they eventually punted it back to Wisconsin with only 8 seconds left. Bollinger threw a hail MARY down field which was intercepted as time expired.
