Offensive Player of the Game: Booker Stanley= 28 carries-119yards-3 touchdowns
The Badgers desperatly needed a victory on Saturday following last Week's loss to UNLV. It wasn't pretty at times, but in the end, all that matters is that Wisconsin posted a 38-27 victory over North Carolina to improve to 3-1 on the season, as they get ready for the conference portion of the season.
Many of the fans were not even in their seats as the game started, when North Carolina opened up with a quick score.
Wisconsin deferred the coin toss, and kicked off to start the game. Michael Waddell fielded the kick-off at the 3, he followed his blocking wedge to the middle of the field, then cut back to the left, found a wide open lane and raced it into the end zone for the touchdown of 97 yards, giving North Carolina a 7-0 lead. After that, the teams settled in for the game. The Badgers went three and out on the first series. North Carolina didn't fare any better on their first series. After just three plays, they also had to punt and the Badgers took over at the 46. Wisconsin would need just seven plays to score their first points of the day. Booker Stanley would score his first of three touchdowns on the day on a sweep to the right from the six. Allen added the extra point and it was now tied at 7-7. The Badgers would take their first lead of the day before the opening quarter ended. Once again it was Booker Stanley scoring the touchdown to give Wisconsin a 14-7 advantage.
North Carolina woud tie the game early in the second quarter, as quarterback Darian Durant, capped off a 8 play- 52 yard drive with a QB sneak from one yard out.
Wisconsin would strike back and answer the Tarheels score with a nice drive of their own. Sorgi completed several nice passes on the drive, including a 5 yard gainer to Darren Charles on a third and four to keep the drive alive. An even nicer pass occurred later, again on a third down. Sorgi, faked a hand-off then lofted a pass down field to Lee Evans who caught it in stride and scored the 44 yard touchdown making it 21-14.
North Carolina would not go away. The Tarheels fought back and drove almost the length of the field, but the drive eventually stalled and they settled for a 25 yard field goal to make it 21-17.
Wisconsin regained control, and looked poised to score again and possibly bury North Carolina for the day. With 45 seconds remaining until half, Sorgi dropped back to pass and threw to Brandon Williams in the corner of the endzone, the ball however was intercepted by North Carolina and the first half ended with Wisconsin leading 21-17.
Wisconsin took advantage of the field position given to them courtesy of a Tarheels penalty about midway through the third quarter. Stanley would score his third touchdown of the day from two yards out, to extend the Badgers lead to 28-17. North Carolina answered the call again, and struck back with a field goal of 51 yards with just under five minuted remaining in the third to make it 28-20.
Wisconsin would extend the lead again, early in the fourth quarter. Again, Sorgi would complete several key passes to keep the drive alive. First... on a second and 15 from the 43, Sorgi passed to Brandon Williams for a gain of 32 yards. The,on a third and 12 Sorgi passed to
Darren Charles for 17 yards and a touchdown, giving Wisconsin a 35-20 lead. The teams traded field position for the bul of the final quarter, before each team would score again on their final possessions of the game. The Badgers extended the lead to 38-20 with 1:30 remaining on a 21 yard field goal by Allen. North Carolina would then milk the clock and take advantage of their allotted time-outs to score a touchdown on the final play of the game. With 5 seconds remaining, back-up quarterback C.J. Stevens heaved up a hail Mary pass into the endzone, Jessee Haley leaped up for it and caught it. The extra point was good to make the FINAL SCORE
