After six games overall and three in the Big Ten, the Wisconsin Badger Football team on Saturday made their faithful fans aware of the fact, that they can begin making their plans to STAY AT HOME this New Year's Day, because that's exactly where they will be.... AT HOME.
On Saturday, the Badgers suffered their third straight loss to fall to 0-3 in the conference, and into LAST PLACE. With an over-all record of 3-3, the Badgers will be hard fought just to get to six wins inorder to qualify for any type of a bowl game.
Technically..... the Badgers lost the game as soon as Ohio State won the coin toss. Things started good for the Badgers on the game's opening drive. Bollinger hit Evans for an 8 yard gain, and then Bennett ran for a gain of 23 yards to get the Badgers out to the fifty. Then things began to go South, as Bollinger threw two incomplete passses and was sacked for a loss, forcing them to punt.
Ohio State started their first drive of the day at the 19.They didn't waste any time.... on the second play Derrick Combs broke a tackle and ran 80 yards for the touch down. The P.A.T. was good and Ohio State led 7-0.
On the Badgers next possesssion, things again started out good, but ended in nothing. Bollinger scrambled for a 12 yard gain.... then several plays later Bollinger converted on a third and thirteen when he again scrambled for a 14 yard gain. From there the drive again stalled and Stemke came in and booted a 52 yard punt. The Buckeyes started their next drive at the 20..... but were then backed up after a holding penalty. Just when it appeared the Badgers had stopped the Buckeyes... Steve Bellisari got hot. First he completed a pass for a 33 yard gain to Ken Yon Rambo, then he handed off to Johnathon Wells who picked up another 35 yards. A few plays later.....Derrick Combs ran up the middle for a 22 yard touch down. The extra point attempt was missed, but the Buckeyes increased the lead to 13-0.
The Badgers offensive troubles continued into the SECOND quarter, as the Buckeyes defense stopped Bennett and Bollinger and forced them to punt each time. Later in the quarter..... the Badger defense came up strong and forced a turn-over. Bellisari completed a 30 yard pass to Rambo, but he had he ball knocked away from him and Mike Echols recovered for the Badgers at the 24. On the drive, Bennett carried for a gain of 15 yards, but then Bollinger was intercepted on a pass intended for Chris Chambers. Oio State quiety went three and out on the possession. On their next possession, the Badgers appeared to have had something cooking, and Pisetsky came on to attempt a 52 yard field goal, but the Buckeyes slapped it back in his face as they blocked the kick.
The Buckeyes would score again late in the quarter. the drive started at the 39.Bellisarri gained a first down, then a few plays later Bellisarri faked a hand-off and passed to Darnell Sanders for a 20 yard touch down to make it 20-0 following the p.a.t.. The Badgers and Bollinger tried to get some points on the boardbefore half, but no such luck. Bollinger was sacked for a five yard loss on first down, and then several plays later after picking up a first down, Bollinger was sacked again. Pisetsky came in to attempt a 62 yard field goal, but it fell short, and the Badgers trailed 20-0 at half time.
In the third quarter..... the teams exchanged punts and field position for a major portion, however..... the Badgers did avert the shutout when they scored with just under three minuted remaining in the quarter. The Badgers had a nice drive going and were faced with a fourth and one at the 36..... they elected to go for it.... Bennett took the ball, broke through the line and raced 36 yards for the touch down. Following the kick it was now 20-7 and the Badgers had hopes of a come from behind victory for a second straight year. But, the Buckeyes stormed right back on their next drive, as Ballisarri hit Rambo for 20 yard gain, later the two conected again for a gain of eight. The drive eventally stalled and the Buckeyes settled for a 24 yard field goal to make it 23-7. The defense came though on the next O.S.U. possession and gave the ball back to the offense.Bollinger put together another nice drive, but it ended in dissastor, as Bollinger fumbled the ball and the Buckeyes recovered at the 13 to close out the quarter.
The fourth quarter saw the teams exchange punts and some penalties, and it saw the Buckeye defense continue to trouble Bollinger. The Badgers were helpless and found themselves in hole too deep to get out of.
FINAL SCORE: Ohio State 23
Badgers 7
With the loss..... Wisconsin drops to 0-3 in the Big ten and 3-3 overall on the season. HELP!!!!!!!!!!
