Seeded 8th in the WEST, at the start of the tournament, the Badgers BEAT the odds and beat Purdue for the third straight time this season, only this time it was for all the marbles...... a ticket for the FINAL FOUR. The Badgers are the FIRST team to be seeded number 8 or lower to make it to the FINAL FOUR since 1986. Once again, as he had done in the first three games of the tournament....... Mike Kelley's defensive play was fantastic.On Saturday, he held Jaraan Cornell to just THREE points.
The game had a typical Big Ten flavor. The score was close the entire way, with neither team unable to be sure or safe of victory, until the Badgers put it away in the final minute.
Jon Bryant started the game out HOT!!! In the first four minutes he made three- three point shots. The Badgers led by three at half time 31-28. Purdue appeared to poised to go for the victory in the second half. Twice they took a lead including a 50-49 advantage with just under seven minutes to play. But then the Badgers defense took control, and held Purdue scoreless for the next six minutes. Roy Boone sparked the Badgers victory by scoring six points in the final 2:30. Jon Bryant was also a BIG factor for the Badgers as he scored a game high 18 points, including five of nine three point shots.
On Saturday....... the BADGERS will play another Big Ten foe in a National Semi-Final game.....
Michigan State. The Spartans beat Iowa State in the MidWest Regional final 75-64.
