The Marquette Golden Eagles snapped a four game losing streak to the Wisconsin Badgers on Saturday night,and extended their home game winning streak to 21 games, through the results of a 63-54 victory in front of over 18,000 fans at the Bradley Center.
Marquette opened the game with a 9-2 lead. The Badgers would rally to eventually tie the game at 9-9, and eventually take a 16-14 lead. Marquette stormed back, and regained the lead at 22-15. But, just as quickly as that, the Badgers rolled off a 7-0 run to once again tie the game at 22-22. Owens then capped it off with a lay-up to give the Badgers a 24-22 lead. The two teams then traded baskets, until Devin Harris nailed a three point sht to give Wisconsin a 29-26 lead. However... Wade hit a fade away jumper at the horn to make it 29-28 at the half.
Tucker opened the second half for the Badgers with a slam dunk, giving the Badgers a 31-28 lead. Marquette then rolled off six straight points, giving them a 34-31 lead. Marquette maintained the lead, and extended it out to 40-35 as Terry Sanders dunked a shot. Marquette later extended their lead to 44-37,as Todd Townsend hit a desperation three point shot as the shot clock buzzer went off. The Badgers kept it close, and got it down to four points at 52-48 with 3:50 remaining. Townsend would nail a three point shot, giving Marquette the advantage again at 55-48. The Badgers rallied again, and Wilkinson hit from three to narrow the gap to 55-52 with 1:20 remaining. The margin remained at three for Marquette at 57-54 with 57 seconds left. Wade converted a lay up with 30 seconds making it 59-54. Marquetee coverted on free throws down the home stretch to secure the victory 63-54.
With the loss, Wisconsin is now 6-2 on the season.
