Friday afternoon, Barry Alvarez made the announcement that everyone had hoped he would make. Alvarez told everyone that he is not only going to stay in Madison and remain the Head Coach of the University of Wisconsin, but that he also fully plans to finish his coaching career as a Badger!!
The announcement came after Alvarez was offered a counter package to the one Miami University had made to him on Thursday. Terms of the new deal are not well known, however, it is believed o be a new five year deal worth about 1.5 MILLION a year. This is expected to make Alvarez one of the highest paid coaches in the country.
Alvarez stated that he was a bit selfish in his decision. He stated that this was " his program" and that he did not want to " give it up".
Alvarez has become the winningest coach in Wisconsin football history. In 11 years he has a record of 79-48-4. Over the time, he has three Big Ten championships; three Rose Bowl titles;Won six bowl games total.
So Badger fans...... relax...... and take a big sigh of relief. Barry Alvarez is here to stay!!!!!
