Offensive Player of the Game: Booker Stanley= 30 carries-135 yards-1 touchdown

Not even an 85 minute weather delay due to severe lighting and rain could prevent the Badgers from improving their record to 3-0. It wasn't an easy victory, as Wisconsin was forced to rally for the nine points in the fourth quarter and then hang on for the 9-7 win.

The first quarter saw no scoring by either team.

In the second quarter, the Badgers had a fairly nice drive going. On a third and seven Stocco passed to Starks for a gain of 15. A few plays later on third and three, Berstein gained 15 up the middle. But the drive ended a few plays later as Walker fumbled and Arizona recovered at the 48. The Badger defense came up strong and stopped Arizona after three plays to force a punt. With 6 minutes and 31 seconds remaining, Wisconsin took over at the 8. Thats when the game was stopped for the lighting.

The delay lasted a total of one hour and 27 minutes. Wisconsin resumed the gane on offense and it resulted in a punt. Arizona took over at the 43. Faced with a third and nine at the 44, Heavner threw deep to Mike Jefferson who beat out Leonhard for the touchdown. The extra point was good, giving the Wildcats a 7-0 lead.

The First half ended, but because of the long delay, the game immediately proceeded to the third quarter which saw no scoring by either team.

In the fourth, Wisconsin finally got on the board as Booker Stanley scored the touchdown from the seven. Mike Allen missed the p.a.t. and with 14:20 remaining Arizona held onto a 7-6 lead. The Badger defense continued to halt Arizona drives and give the offense a chance.
The Badgers were able to move the football enough later in the quarter to set up a 23 yard field goal from Allen with 3:30 remaining to give the Badgers a 9-7 lead.
Arizona rallied back and drove down the field for a potential game winning field goal. Nick Folk attempted a 48 yarder with 42 seconds remaining, but he MISSED it and Wisconsin hung on for a 9-7 VICTORY.

With the win Wisconsin is now 3-0 for the 2004 season

Up Next: Penn State (2-1) for Big Ten Opener - 4:45pm 9/25/04
