One week following a huge emotional victory against Michigan, the Badgers faced the Indiana Hoosiers, and while there were several errors, they weren't enough to hurt, as Brandon Williams led the charge for a 41-24 victory to improve the Badgers to 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the Big Ten.
FIRST QUARTER:
The Badgers went right to work on the game's first down. Stocco passed to Johnathan Orr for a big gain of 48 yards. Several plays later, facing a third and 16, Stocco eluded a few defenders, and tossed down field to Williams for a TOUCHDOWN. Mehlaff added the p.a.t. for a 7-0 lead.
The Hoosiers also connected on a long-ball pass on their opening drive. On a third and 15 from the 17, Powers hit his receiver James Hardy, who caught it in stride and ran past Brett Bell for the touchdown. The p.a.t. was good to tie the game at 7-7.
The Badgers extended the lead to 10-7 on the next drive as Mehlaff connected on a 38 yard field goal. The Badger defense forced the Hoosiers into a three and out series with a punt. Williams fielded the ball at the 37, followed a few key blocks and broke into the open field to score a 63 yard punt return TOUCHDOWN. Mehlaff added the extra point, and the Badgers built-up a 17-7 lead.
SECOND QUARTER:
Wisconsin stretched the lead to 24-7 early in the second quarter, as Stocco passed to Williams for a 14 yard TOUCHDOWN, which capped off an 11 play-58 yard drive that started in the final minute of the opening quarter.
The Hoosiers would bounce back and start a late scoring frenzy before the first half ended. Powers began by throwing a 48 yard touchdown pass to his Freshmen receiver James Balley to make it 24-14 with just under three minutes remaining. The Badgers stormed right back. On first down, Stocco passed to Williams for a 29 yard gain out to the 48. A few plays later, Calhoun ended the drive with a one yard TOUCHDOWN. Mehlaff added the p.a.t. to give the Badgers a 31-14 lead with just 20 seconds left.
The Hoosiers got a favorable return on the kick-off, as they started from almost mid-field. On first down, Powers hit Hardy for a 35 yard gain down to the 17. Kleinsmith booted a fieldgoal of 33 yards as time expired making the score 31-17 at HALFTIME
THIRD QUARTER:
Both teams struggled on offense in the third. The Badgers did manage to convert a 43 yard field goal from Mehlaff to pull away farther 34-17.
FOURTH QUARTER:
The Badgers appeared to have nailed the coffin shut on a victory with about 7:30 remaining. Stocco led the way. On third and seven at the 30, Stocco passed to Jason Pociask for a gain of 10. A few plays later, Stocco eluded Hoosier tacklers and lofted a pass 23 yards down field to Johnathan Orr who caught it at the back-end of the endzone. Initially he was ruled out of bounds. But a replay by officials reversed the call and made it a TOUCHDOWN. Mehlaff added the p.a.t. for a 41-17 lead.
The Hoosiers managed to get a consolation touchdown with 1:25 remaining, as Powers passed to Hardy for the score.
With the conversion of the p.a.t. it made the FINAL SCORE
