Brad Soderberg and his Badgers knew entering the Big Ten basketball tournament this weekend in Chicago, that they were already assured a slot in the NCAA tournament field next week. It was simply a matter of winning one or two games this weekend to better their seeding. On Friday, the Badgers went COLD and did not make a shot for the better part of 14 minutes and cost them a loss to Indiana 64-52.
The first half played out very close as the two teams traded baskets and were actually tied at 14 midway through the first half. From that point, the Badgers went on a nice run and opened a 25-17 lead. Boone would hit or three moments later to give the Badgers their biggest lead of nine at 28-19. The Hoosiers would close out the half on a 5-0 run, and keep the Badgers scoreless for the final 4:30 to make it 28-24 at halftime.
The Hoosiers HOT shooting continued into the second half, while the Badgers went COLD COLD COLD. The Hoosiers would explode onto a 22-2 run to lead 41-30. Mark Vershaw would finally hit for two to make it 41-32 and end a drought of 14:22 without a basket. The Badgers would mount a comeback on a run of 14-11 to draw within 6 at 52-46. It continued to look like a comeback victory would be possible when WILLS hit for three with 1:59 remaining to make it 54-49. Unfortunatly, it was too much..... too late as the Hoosiers held on for a 64-52 win.
>> The loss marks the first time in two years, that the Badgers failed to make it to at least the semi-final round.
